I’ll keep this simple, because the first 48 hours decide how even and long-lasting your tinted brows look. Your number one rule is: keep your brows dry and product-free for 24 to 48 hours. No water, no steam, no sweaty workouts, no pools, and no oil-based skincare near the brow area. If you’re in Duluth, our humidity and summer sweat can make this part harder, but it’s also why the rule matters so much.
The first 24 to 48 hours: keep tinted brows dry, cool, and untouched
Right after your Brow Tint, think of your brow area like fresh color that’s still settling. In this window, rubbing, heat, and oils are the biggest reasons people lose depth or see patchiness.
48-hour non-negotiables: No water on the brow area, no steam or saunas, no hot yoga, no heavy sweating, and no pools or hot tubs.
What to do today (quick checklist)
- Keep your hands off your brows. No rubbing, scratching, or “testing” the color.
- Skip brow makeup and brow gel for the first 48 hours. If you must wear face makeup, keep it away from the brow hairs and the skin directly under them.
- Avoid oil-based cleansers, balms, and makeup removers near the brow area for 48 to 72 hours.
- Hold off on active skincare around the brows for 48 to 72 hours, especially salicylic acid and glycolic acid.
And yes, Duluth’s humid summers count here. Sweat and pool time can soften the tint and break down the color faster, so give your brows those two full days to settle before you jump back into heat and water.
Days 3 to 7: how to wash your face without fading your eyebrow tint
After 48 hours, you can start cleansing normally again, but “normally” should still be gentle around the brow area. Tint tends to hang on better when you treat the brow hairs like you would freshly colored hair.
Cleanse: Use a gentle, non-oily cleanser and keep friction low. Pat dry instead of rubbing your towel across the brows.
Groom: Brush brows lightly with a clean spoolie. This keeps tinted brows looking even and polished without piling on product.
Avoid: Exfoliating scrubs, facial brushes, and peel pads around the brows. These can lift tint from the skin and fade the hair faster.
Color also tends to settle over a few days. If your eyebrow tint looks a touch bold on day one, don’t panic. Once you’ve cleansed gently a few times and your skin oils return to normal, it usually looks more natural.
Products and habits that help tinted eyebrows last longer
I’m not big on complicated routines. A few small choices make the biggest difference.
- Keep oils away from brows: Oil-based cleansing balms and heavy face oils can break down tint faster. Apply them around the perimeter, not through the brows.
- Be careful with acne products: If you use salicylic acid, glycolic acid, or spot treatments, keep them off the brow area for 48 to 72 hours, then reintroduce carefully.
- Skip aggressive exfoliation: Scrubs and peel pads around the brows will usually fade tinted brows quicker than anything else.
If you’re also doing brow shaping, brow lamination, or a lash tint, follow the same “less friction, less oil, less steam” mindset so everything wears evenly.

If your brows get wet accidentally in the first 48 hours, don’t scrub them. Blot gently with a clean tissue and let them air dry. Most of the time, that one save prevents the patchy look people get when they rub the area.
